Why is racism such a touchy subject, really? They’re your friends, what you actually said doesn’t make much sense even in context, but really people just need to get thicker skins. If you’d burst into the room wearing a white robe and hat, holding a knife, shouting die ni**a die, die. Then maybe we’d have a real #LFMF
I think the admins are just trolling now, these submissions are getting worse.
I agree, whilst an anal-retentive clerk in a government office might consider this racist only a recluse with a blinkered imagination would actually be hurt by it.
Fail = 0
I agree also. I’m getting sick of these, it seems like people are taking every single slightly racist or sexual term and writing some stupid story around it. Who would actually get offended in this case?
It’s my understanding that “colored” isn’t even considered an offensive term. Antiquated, perhaps, and maybe the association with the issues of the time when it was popular makes it slightly offensive, but… eh. I just have never thought of that one as being particularly inappropriate.
And for that matter, the OP claims they were calling for “more” of them. Clearly they like having them around.
that is a brilliant point.
Uh, yeah it is most certainly racist.
It is considered a slightly more “cultured” word than the “n-word” and not as much of a “swear word” but that doesn’t make it any less racist than calling them “Boy” or “Slave”.
If you are referring to the people, yes – if I say that colored folk are not welcome here, that is very, very racist, and makes me a complete ant total douchebag. But ‘colored’ is a word in common use in the English language, and it can refer to any of a dozen things, most of which have nothing to do with anyone’s race. If I say that my view of a debate is colored by my background as a scientist, that is not racist. If I tell my husband not to put that white shirt in the washing machine because this is a load of coloreds, that is not racist. If I say that cantaloupe is kinda pinkish-orange colored, that is not racist. And if I say that this stand of white Christmas lights is boring, I want colored – that is not racist either.
The more I read posts like these, the more I start to think that the black people that were in the room when these things were supposedly said either laughed because they thought it was funny, or barely cared about it IF they noticed it at all.
These posts are getting old very quickly. It makes it seem like we react and over-react at the slightest mention of the word “black”; obviously some people are like that, because there are a few in every group, but the vast majority of us are not.
Oy – I got all worked up over this nonsense lol. Off to other fails I go.
Standing in the living room talking about Christmas lights: “We need more coloreds”–probably goes unnoticed.
Standing in the gymnasium talking about starting a new basketball team: “We need more coloreds”–probably racist.
Either that, or someone’s paranoid about not having enough “diversity” on the team.
Nobody under the age of 40 still uses “Colored” to refer to people with a high degree of melanin. It has reverted to it’s original use as an adjective describing a noun as possessing a color, generally other than white or black.
P.S. – Trolling trollers are gonna troll. Why does the site pay for admins if crap like this still gets through?
Saying that someone is a “Person of Color” is not at all the same thing as calling somebody “Colored”.
